Morgan Holly Wood

Morgan Holly Wood is a graduate of Tulane University with a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science. She worked in lobbying and policy positions representing state governments, tribal governments, and a Colorado state senator prior to graduating from the University of Denver College of Law in 2004, where she received scholastic excellence awards, was on the mock trial team, and worked as a research assistant and trial practice coach.

She began her legal career in Aztec, New Mexico, at the Law Office of the Public Defender, representing indigent defendants at all stages of their criminal cases, for both adults and juveniles. She served on both the juvenile Drug Court and Grade Court and the adult Treatment and Drug Courts, and rose to be the managing attorney supervising attorneys and staff for the 11 th Judicial District.

In 2011, she moved to the Law Office of the Public Defender in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where she again served on Treatment and Drug Courts in District and Magistrate Courts while continuing to represent indigent criminal defendants at all points in their cases. She was promoted to serve as a managing attorney and later, to be the District Defender for Santa Fe, Los Alamos, and Taos for several years. Ms. Wood worked with stakeholders, including Judge David Segura to start the Transformative Justice Initiative in Santa Fe Magistrate Court for younger adults with mental health issues and non-violent offenses.

Ms. Wood joined the District Attorney’s Office in Santa Fe in 2020, prosecuting adults and juveniles, overseeing alternative programs, serving as the District Court program pointperson, and working as a liaison with law enforcement for their officer-prosecutions.

In 2023 Ms. Wood was appointed to serve as Judge in the Santa Fe Magistrate Court, adjudicating civil and criminal cases while continuing her work with community outreach programs, including her work with Santa Fe County’s Engage program. After her time on the bench, she has joined the Quinones Law Firm, LLC in Santa Fe, NM where she assists in Defending counties, municipalities, school districts and other government agencies in New Mexico in employment, civil rights and general law litigation. She is licensed in New Mexico and Federal Court.
